Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Texas Longhorns―Preview (4/30/16)
Time: Saturday Doubleheader 2:30, Sunday 1:30
Location: Austin, TX, UFCU Disch-Falk Field
Network: Longhorn Network
Due to impending severe weather in the Austin area on Friday, the game has been moved to Saturday and a doubleheader will be played starting at 2:30.
The Texas Longhorns are coming off a big road series win last weekend against #9 Texas Tech, who has since fallen to #15, in Lubbock. The bats for Texas proved to be key to the victories. Even in their lose on Friday, they still scored six runs but on Saturday and Sunday they scored 7 and 17 respectively.
The pitching of Kyle Johnston and Chase Shugart on Sunday helped the Horns run-rule Tech 17-1 in seven innings. Freshman Nolan Kingham also played a big role in Saturday’s game when he came in to relieve starter Ty Culbreth, who would notch his conference and national leading 8th win, and went the last three innings to get the save and also save the rest of the bullpen for Sunday.
Oklahoma State is coming off a weekend series win at home against #11 TCU, who has since fallen to #13. The Cowboys won the Friday and Sunday game’s 9-0 and 11-7 respectively. They did loss a midweek matchup with Arkansas earlier this week 7-6. OSU is led offensively by shortstop Donnie Walton, who is hitting .365, and Dustin Williams who leads the team with nine HR. On the mound, they are led by ace RHP Thomas Hatch who is 3-1 with a 1.72 ERA in ten starts and closer RHP Tyler Buffett who is 5-1 in 23 appearances with 1.90 ERA and seven saves.
