With the 13th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins have selected Laremy Tunsil, offensive tackle, Ole Miss.
The Dolphins got a steal with Tunsil at 13. He was, at one point, thought to be the top overall player in this years draft, but due a questionable video that leaked 10 minutes before the draft, he fell far down the boards.
At 6’5″ and 310 pounds, Tunsil has great size. While his size is important, Tunsil’s strong suits are his stellar technique and supreme quickness out of his stance. He pairs his quickness with strength after putting up 34 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press at the combine.
Miami has clearly committed to protecting Ryan Tannehill and Tunsil is completely ready to step into that horrible offensive line and keep Tannehill upright in the pocket. If Tunsil can improve his run blocking and overcome any perceived off the field issues, he has the potential to be an all-pro for many years to come.
Overall Grade: A+
At 13, Tunsil may prove to be the best player taken in this years draft and the Dolphins gave up nothing to get him. You hear nothing but good things about Tunsil from his coaches and teammates and I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt with the recent video that has surfaced. All Dolphins fans should be happy to finally have a franchise cornerstone on the offensive line and to finally let franchise quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, prove his worth with a clean pocket.
